Step 2 - Abrade the jacket circumferentially approximately 80 mm (3 in) on either side of the damaged area using emery cloth or a fine file (see figure lBl-l4).

Step 3 - Clean the abraded area with alcohol and blow dry with air.
Step 4 - Fill any large depressions or voids with adhesive tape as required to restore the cable contour as follows:
WARNING: Application of too much heat will cause the adhesive to flow and may cause burns if it comes in contact with the skin.
Cut off short strips of adhesive tape and heat them slightly with the heat gun to soften them. Roll the tape with your fingers and press them into the damaged area. Repeat process until the damaged area is filled, then, holding the heat gun approximately l00 mm (4 in) away, apply just enough heat to the tape to form and contour to the cable (see figure lBl-l5).
