5.3 Policies.
a. The administration of the JETDAS will be consistent with the objectives specified in MIL-STD-196, the Defense Standardization Manual 4120.24M, and DoD instruction DoDI 5000.02.
b. The assignment of type designations will:
(1) Provide visibility of electronic materiel in the service inventories. (2) Be responsive to user requirements.
(3) Provide singular, common identification.
(4) Further the standardization of electronic materiel identification.
c. Type Designation. A specific combination of letters and numerals, structured in accordance with MIL-STD-196, which provides a standard means of uniquely identifying electronic materiel by design configuration.
d. Department of Defense Control Point (DODCP). The official focal point within the Department of Defense is responsible for administration of the JETDAS and is authorized to assign type designations.
e. Department Control Point (DCP). The official focal point within a Military Department is authorized to obtain a type designation from the DODCP.
f. Submitter Review Point (SRP). The official Government Civilian/Military Personnel representative, pre-approval point validates the information on the completed DD form
61(s) prior to submission to the DCP.
g. Originator. The Government Representative or the Support Contractor with the most knowledge about the RFN. The specified individual will complete the DD form 61(s), and then submit the request to the Government Representative (SRP) for review.
h. The assignment of type designations will be consistent with: (1) DOD Instruction 5000.02.

i. Type designation will be used as assigned. Changes may be requested if they are consistent with established policy.
